Carbonear, Newfoundland in winter. This town has a population of less than 5,000 and it was the closest “city” to me when I was a kid. It was a 45-ish minute drive to go shopping or to a Chinese buffet. There wasn’t even a McDonald’s there back then.
When I tell people I didn’t grow up with Tim Hortons or fast food or anything well known, this is why.
